Bob's deliberately double-edged coinage (1995), first named in Dialogue 11 as the presidential position on the Formula Chart's extreme HCE column and, by dialogue 14, the fifth position of the Tiny Note Chart — the Anthropomorphic Physical, the Dobbs quadrant. Cameron takes it up as the dialogue's fork: Bob's "insistence of personality," the reading that absorbs everything into Bob ("Bob the greatest hockey player that ever existed"), against Cameron's "abrogation of personality," the technique of how not to have a point of view. New to it — start with the two-way-street reading in dialogue 14.
Across the dialogues
Named as the Tiny Note Chart's fifth position and Bob's next book — the fork between the insistence and the abrogation of personality
Cameron first hears the phrase as pure ambiguity — the fifth position (not a real quadrant) names both a total lockdown-and-rule and their total absence.
"the lockdown Bob rule is the absence of lockdown and the absence of rule."
Bob's double meaning — either the anti-environment locks Bob down, or the co-anaesthetic technology raises Bob to the center; a "two-way street" whose two ends he must hold at once.
"lockdown Bob rule is external environment lockdowns Bob, or the technology raises Bob to the center of the situation, you know, co-anesthetic."
Bob adopts the book as his vehicle for Cameron's open-ended science — the way out of the chart that either "produces weapons of mass destruction" or lets us "save ourselves."
"That's what I intend to do in Lockdown Bob Rule."
Cameron names it the path of personality — the reading that pulls everything toward Bob (the iON revelation, the Sidney Crosby "unrealized creation") — against his own abrogation of personality.
"One is lockdown Bob Rule, Bob being the greatest hockey player that ever existed, along with other stuff."
Connections
Coined in 1995, it sits on the Formula Chart's bottom-right HCE column — the presidential mask, "all lockdowns of various sorts."
In dialogue 14 it names the chart's fifth position — the Anthropomorphic Physical / Dobbs quadrant, the ground that swallows the four.
Bob's path of personality set against Cameron's "abrogation of personality" — the science of the interior landscape.
Bob's evidence for the path is iON — the "top secret stuff" he says proves he sees the collectivity others can't.
